Honest Fire

The weight of this sad time we must obey;
speak what we feel, not what we ought to say.

For we were raised to praise the rules,
As indignant, vacant fools,
Until our dreams were bought and sold,
And we did just as we’re told.

 Crippled by our comfort zone,
A mold where foreign thoughts had grown,
That nestled in our private space,
And sucked the life out of our face,
Until we served our parasite,
Who controlled what’s wrong and right.

Which of us, in the shining light of day,
Can sing the words they wish to say?
To ignite their own desire
In a blaze of honest fire,
And know they are real to feel,
Their truthful words expire?

Which of us can face this task,
To unpeel the human mask,
Standing naked and sincere,
As sunshine through a tear,
Where honesty sings beautifully,
With nothing left to fear?
